The Hive invited everyone to join us for a bank holiday weekend of arts, activities and music for all ages.
All were welcome! Free entry!
Saturday Aug 29th Midday – 11pm Sunday Aug 30th 12-8pm Monday Aug 31st 12-8pm

An end of Summer party for all those who were looking for something a bit more chilled out than the Carnival, and a bit cheaper than a week in Ibiza.
With jugglers, artists, poets, musicians, workshops, yoga, creative writing, and the errection of a giant totem pole, Buzz! was filled with activities to delight, entertain and inform everyone whatever their age or interests.
We had live painting, creative activities and a juice, tea and cake cafe running throughout the weekend.
Entry to Buzz was free and the Hive provided as many free activities as possible. However some of the specific activites required a donation.
Poet BRS gives a reading
Here are some highlights of the weekend...
The Pain and Strife of the Bourgeois Life
As part of the Hive's Buzz festival Philippa Hambley put on a free performance of her brilliant one woman show The Pain and Strife of the Bourgeois Life to say thank you for the rehearsal space the Hive provided. A motley collection of children, performers, Hive crew, and some wanderers in from the street are treated to a delightful satirical romp through the ages as Eve is expelled from the garden and wanders the world of men, searching for a way back in.

Here is the trailer for this wonderful show:
Carlos' Grand Erection
Buzz also hosted the ritual of the raising of the tyre totem pole which artist Carlos Cashiero built in the yard.

This grand erection was facilitated by Hive crew with the help of random passers-by who got drawn in.
Resident poet BRS gave a reading of a Native-American blessing as the pole was raised.

An unknown lady (who had woken up at the Hive that day after enjoying the Love Lounge late night party there the night before) concocted a new ritual involving a stick, a 'menstrual cape' and some unsuspecting volunteers from the crowd to rebalance the gender symbolism of the grand erection.

The burlesque cabaret that ran on the Saturday night filled the space with colour, costume and fire.
