The Hive Mentality video is written and narrated by Phil Osophy, it is a reflection on what The Hive in Dalston has meant to him and many other people during the 1000 days that it operated as a community hub. The footage comes from Poetic Justice, the final event held there to mark its closing.
"A meaningful event packed with powerful and thought-provoking spoken word, hip-hop and live music performances by some very talented and intelligent artists providing food for thought for those who would like some nourishment. Hive mentality AKA the hive mind or group mind has several possible definitions and refers to a number of sociological and philosophical concepts. for example the concept of collective consciousness and collective intelligence, the collective behaviour of decentralised and self organised systems, the desire for harmony (or conformity) in groups that can result in a decision making outcome, a single entity wherein a collection of minds are linked or somehow meet and think or behave in the same way as each other etc" - from Working Class Title Productions "The last night at the Hive – Hive Mentality – an appropriately mixed up night of music, poetry, and spoken word, performance, jam and open mic. At 3am we switched off the sound system. It made no difference. The jam went on until 6am. The crowd made it’s own party, made it’s own music. Said goodbye to the Hive with melody, poetry and love." - Testimonial from Lisa Furness
