"We at the London Basque Society have been actively organising events in London for over 25 years. The range of events we do organise on a yearly basis goes from musical concerts, whether full bands or acoustic performances, to cinema, theatre, lunches and/or dinners, social gatherings and parties, and the like. Anything to do with culture and community gathering/sharing. This has meant for us, we have had to continuously find places to accommodate our events, since we have never had a chance to get our own premises. On that line, we have had to deal with countless owners, bosses, landlords and so on, when preparing our events. For more information about our doings throughout the years, please refer to our website: http://www.zintzilik.org At some point a couple of years ago, almost 3 years, we found out about The Hive project in Dalston. Some of us live in Hackney so we decided to pop in and find out about it. We were pleasantly surprised as we met the people at The Hive. A very friendly group, very active and community oriented, which fitted us and the nature of our events very well indeed. From then on, we were able to book The Hive Dalston in several occasions and every single time things went nice and smooth. We were able to organise several musical concerts with an after-party, several big party/gatherings, some cinema screenings, musical practice sessions and so on. And the hiring rates, compared to what we have paid through the years, were truly and amazingly low. In some cases, near nothing, which is great for us as this Society lives on a very low yearly grant which has been significantly decreased in the last few years. We also have a lot of young people attending to our events, students with little money, so for us being able to use The Hive meant we could keep our ticket prices very low, which was and still is a blessing for us! Each event is extremely important to us, and unique, and every one of them at the Hive was very successful. We found our friends at the Hive to be very helpful and very well organised. Another important point for us at the London Basque Society is to be able to open our culture and our traditions to all the Londoners, and places like The Hive are perfect for that, since these places are open to all the community. We found many people from the local community joining our parties and finding out about our Basque culture, our Basque ways and so on....Just what this Society is all about! All in all, and in all honesty, we wish we had a place like The Hive available for all our events. As simple as that. We couldn't imagine a better place for them!"
